Today in "Incoherent Arguments Against the Common Core"

The Cape Cod Times asked candidates for local school committee races to state their positions on the Common Core, with a particular focus on the campaign to repeal the standards. While I was pleasantly surprised to see most candidates supporting keeping the standards, this response from a candidate in West Yarmouth stuck out:

The government shouldn’t be involved.

It's sort of shocking to see a candidate for public office - you know, the government - misunderstanding the nature of, you know, the government. The person who said this wants to be responsible for setting education policy. This statements belongs in a Hall of Fame, alongside perspectives like "Keep the government's hands off my Medicare."
